Style Cat, Inc.

I have been surrounded by fashion and design and creativity my entire life – my grandmother was a wardrobe stylist, my mother an interior designer and my sister is a fashion designer. They have had a lot to do with why I’m so passionately dedicated to fashion and design and crafty goodness. Following my schooling in fashion styling, interior space planning and home staging, I am joyfully juggling wardrobe therapy/styling, staging and organizing homes and people. I’ve styled everyone from on-the-go moms to actresses to business executives, and as a member of POC (Professional Organizers in Canada) I love whipping messy, claustrophobic closets into gorgeous, tidy spaces in no time flat. I’m a virgo – the organizing thing is inherent. I can’t help it.

Not a Winner

November 2nd, 2008

Well,  I didn’t win the Gemini award for Best Host this year….Brian Baeumler from HGTV’s Disaster DIY did, and I’m so glad he did! I got to meet him at the Gemini’s, and he is super deluxe nice. He was blown away by his win – like blown away – floored really. Couldn’t believe it. And sooooo grateful. It was really cool. I’m really glad I got to meet him, and congratulate him on his win. In fact, I met him prior to the awards starting, and told him that I thought tonight was ‘his turn to win’. So I called it Brian! You rock. I met his wife too – gorgeous – by the way, and Brian told me she’s a huge fan of “She’s Crafty”!

I also got to meet the boys from W Network’s Style by Jury – David Clemmer/Stylist and Bruce Turner/Host (Bruce was also nominated that night). Too fun!

I was thrilled to wear a gorgeous dress (blouse & skirt, really) by Chloe Angus, and fantastic glam jewellery by Elsa Corsi. Check them out! Thanks gals!!

Heels, Needles & Macrame

September 12th, 2008

“She’s Crafty” is about to start airing in France in October, and they’ve retitled it “Heels, Needles & Macrame”.  LOL. I’m not quite sure where the macrame came from because there isn’t a sniff of macrame on the show, but I wonder if it’s because I said “This is not your mothers macrame”.

From their website:

Nominated for a Gemini? Little ol’ me?

August 28th, 2008

Tuesday August 26th 2008 – 0600 hours

Upon waking on Tuesday morning, I turned the computer on. My normal routine – except this day I was headed directly to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s website because today was the day the nominations would be announced for the 2008 Geminis – Canada’s version of the Emmy’s. My phone hadn’t rung as of yet, which likely meant no news wasn’t good news. (I’ve always had visions of my agent calling me at some ungodly hour of the morning to tell me I’d been nominated for an Oscar). As I scrolled through the extraordinarily long list of nominees, I passed by the “Best Lifestyle Series” category noting “She’s Crafty” didn’t make the list. Poop.

I continued to scroll down and found the category for “Best Photography In a Lifestyle Series” and was not surprised to see Mr. Ian Kerr’s name listed for “She’s Crafty”. Yippeeeeeee! This man is incredible – I’ve never met anyone quite so talented or with such unique vision when it comes to shooting television and documentary films. I am beyond grateful for having the opportunity to work him – and I hope to do so again in the future. Gush, gush.

Scrolling on, I happened across the “Best Host in a Lifestyle/Practical Information, or Performing Arts Program or Series” and thought for a moment I was seeing things. There stood my name among five other (GREAT!) nominees, and I swore my brain had made it up. Whaaaatttttt? Are you kiddin’ me? Too cool, too cool, too cool. Man oh man.

See – I’m already a very grateful person. Grateful to be on this earth, in this fantastic country living a life of peace and creativity with wonderful family and friends. But, this? This just tops the grateful scale. Like my friend Heather said “You have been nominated by a jury of your peers”. So, thank you. Thank you to those who ticked my name off on their ballots and who hopefully I made laugh a little. (That was the goal, anyways). You rock.

Now – I just have one dilemma. What am I going to wear???

Computer Stolen!

May 1st, 2008

To the fans of She’s Crafty who have written to me and not received a reply, my apologies!

My laptop was stolen last week as I was departing the airport, going through security (and I use that term loosely). I lost 300 emails that needed replies as well as another 700 from April 18 – 23, because my server crashed as a result of the mass of incoming emails.

If you read this message and want to resend your message to me, please do! It’s not for lack of wanting to be in touch!

This is a lesson to all of those who have been avoiding backing up your computers! Do it! Please. You can purchase an external hard-drive now for around $100 that will get you about 320 GB. That’s more memory than you’ll probably ever need and you’ll be happy for the investment.

And to the tall man who was caught on security cameras stealing my laptop, there’s this thing called Karma. If you haven’t already been aquainted, you will be soon.

Daily Inspiration

April 2nd, 2008

Welcome to my blog! Thanks for coming to hang out with little ol’ moi!

One thing you should know about me:

I am incredibly committed to making this world a better place through creativity and through inner peace. If we have those two things in our daily lives, humankind would suffer less conflict (with themselves and others) and experience more joy and happiness. I truly believe we are all creative beings, and we crave creativity (even if we don’t know it). Instead of allowing ourselves to be creative, we go to food (in my case), smoking, drugs, shopping (ok-me sometimes), gambling, sex and other forms of addiction. She’s Crafty stemmed from my need to share this message with the world (more on that later).

Even if you’re not a crafter, maybe after watching you’ll buy a beautiful journal and start writing down that novel that’s been nagging at you forever. Or you’ll take a guitar lesson to satisfy that inner rock star. Or join a dance class, even if you haven’t danced since you were in ballet class at the age of 9. Fill your soul, your spirit with creativity.

Much love & light & yours in craft, Wendy
