Tuesday August 26th 2008 – 0600 hours
Upon waking on Tuesday morning, I turned the computer on. My normal routine – except this day I was headed directly to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s website because today was the day the nominations would be announced for the 2008 Geminis – Canada’s version of the Emmy’s. My phone hadn’t rung as of yet, which likely meant no news wasn’t good news. (I’ve always had visions of my agent calling me at some ungodly hour of the morning to tell me I’d been nominated for an Oscar). As I scrolled through the extraordinarily long list of nominees, I passed by the “Best Lifestyle Series” category noting “She’s Crafty” didn’t make the list. Poop.
I continued to scroll down and found the category for “Best Photography In a Lifestyle Series” and was not surprised to see Mr. Ian Kerr’s name listed for “She’s Crafty”. Yippeeeeeee! This man is incredible – I’ve never met anyone quite so talented or with such unique vision when it comes to shooting television and documentary films. I am beyond grateful for having the opportunity to work him – and I hope to do so again in the future. Gush, gush.
Scrolling on, I happened across the “Best Host in a Lifestyle/Practical Information, or Performing Arts Program or Series” and thought for a moment I was seeing things. There stood my name among five other (GREAT!) nominees, and I swore my brain had made it up. Whaaaatttttt? Are you kiddin’ me? Too cool, too cool, too cool. Man oh man.
See – I’m already a very grateful person. Grateful to be on this earth, in this fantastic country living a life of peace and creativity with wonderful family and friends. But, this? This just tops the grateful scale. Like my friend Heather said “You have been nominated by a jury of your peers”. So, thank you. Thank you to those who ticked my name off on their ballots and who hopefully I made laugh a little. (That was the goal, anyways). You rock.
Now – I just have one dilemma. What am I going to wear???
